Preis/Award: The Rolex Awards for Enterprise (Rolex Preise für Unternehmergeist )

Dotierung/Endowment: Die Jury wählt fünf Preisträger aus, die 100.000 US-Dollar sowie ein Rolex Chronometer in Gold mit spezieller Gravur erhalten. Fünf Ehrenpreisträger erhalten jeweils 50.000 US-Dollar sowie ein Rolex Chronometer aus Stahl und Gold. Die Preisträger und die Ehrenpreisträger müssen ihren Geldpreis für die Durchführung oder die Fertigstellung ihres Projekts verwenden.

The Selection Committee will choose five Laureates, who will each receive a cheque for $100,000 and a specially inscribed gold Rolex chronometer. The five Laureates will be invited to an awards ceremony as guests of Montres Rolex S.A. The Selection Committee may also decide to grant a number of second prizes to other individuals worthy of support, the Associate Laureates. The amount of these prizes will be determined at the discretion of the Committee. No alternatives to the non-cash prizes will be given.

Since their creation in 1976, the Rolex Awards have been granted on nine occasions: 1978, 1981, 1984, 1987, 1990, 1993, 1996, 1998, 2000 and 2002. Since 1996, the Awards have been granted regularly every two years.
 

Teilnehmer/Participant: Um die Rolex Preise können sich Personen jeder Altersgruppe, Staatsangehörigkeit und Herkunft bewerben. Die Bewerber müssen ihre eigenen Vorschläge oder Projekte einreichen. In der Regel werden Personen ausgezeichnet, die wenig oder keinen Zugang zu herkömmlichen Finanzierungen haben.

The Selection Committee invites applications for projects that fall into the following areas: science and medicine; technology and innovation; exploration and discovery; the environment; and cultural heritage. Projects must expand knowledge of our world, improve the quality of life on the planet or contribute to the betterment of humankind.

In judging applications, the Selection Committee will determine primarily whether the candidates show exceptional spirit of enterprise. Projects are also judged on the basis of their feasibility, originality, and potential impact on the world and on society. Finally, the Selection Committee will consider the extent to which a Rolex Award will contribute to the completion of the project. The application of the selection criteria will be at the sole discretion of the Selection Committee.

Applications may be submitted by individuals only. Only one individual may appear on each application form. Only one project may be submitted per applicant in each series of Rolex Awards.
No third-party nominations are accepted. Applicants must submit their own ideas and proposals.
No institutional or collective applications are allowed. If a project represents the efforts of several individuals, one person must represent the group and sign the application form. Should such a group effort be chosen, the Rolex Award will be presented to the individual representative. Montres Rolex S.A. will have no obligation to any other members of the group. If an applicant is working within an institution, the full amount of the award will go to the applicant only. No indirect costs are allowed.
Applications for the Rolex Awards for Enterprise may be submitted by anyone of any age or nationality. Excluded are former Rolex Laureates; Rolex employees; Rolex agents and retailers and their employees; employees of advertising, public relations and any other agencies acting for Rolex;
members of the immediate families of any of the above; any other person closely connected with Montres Rolex S.A. Former entrants, including Honourable Mention winners and Associate Laureates, but excluding Laureates, may apply to more than one series of Rolex Awards.

Jury/Jury: Laureates of the Rolex Awards for Enterprise are chosen by an independent Selection Committee. The Selection Committee will comprise experts of international renown, representing a range of disciplines. This panel, chaired by Mr Patrick Heiniger, chief executive officer of Montres Rolex S.A., has sole responsibility for choosing the Laureates. The Selection Committee's decisions are final and are not subject to appeal.
Moreover, the Committee's procedures and deliberations are confidential and  will not be disclosed.

Die Jury, die für jede Preisvergabe neu gebildet wird, ist ein unabhängiges, ehrenamtliches und interdisziplinäres Gremium, dem namhafte Fachleute aus allen Teilen der Welt angehören. Sie evaluieren die Projekte und wählen die Preisträger und Ehrenpreisträger aus. Vorsitzender der Jury ist Patrick Heiniger, Generaldirektor der Rolex SA.

Preisverleihung für: Die Preise werden in folgenden fünf Bereichen verliehen: Wissenschaft und Medizin, Technologie und Innovation, Erforschung und Entdeckung, Umwelt, Kulturerbe. Es können jedoch Projekte aus praktisch allen Fachgebieten eingereicht werden, sofern sie dem Fortschritt der Menschheit dienen.

Sonstiges/Other Information: Die Rolex Preise für Unternehmungsgeist fördern weltweit Einzelpersonen mit Weitblick und Unternehmungsgeist, indem sie ihnen die finanzielle Unterstützung und Anerkennung verschaffen, die sie für die Umsetzung innovativer und realisierbarer Projekte benötigen. Es muss sich um Projekte handeln, die dem Wissen und dem Wohl der Menschheit dienen.

The Rolex Awards for Enterprise aim to encourage a spirit of enterprise in individuals around the world by supporting outstanding efforts in areas that advance human knowledge and well-being.
The Rolex Awards provide financial assistance to people who want to implement concrete working projects. Applicants must submit projects that are envisaged for the future or that have been completed in part. Completed work cannot be considered.
